My gallery has more than 13000 pictures today.
Everything is working fine, except that the TopX of the main folder takes more than 4 minutes to load. :(

on my connection it took almost 2 minutes as well when acessing the frist time.
I know about this - and this will change a lot in 1.7. Right now the topx are fully calculated again an again.
I'm changing this right now that I already make cache files that have precalculated results. This will already speed up everything a lot! If you even allow TWG not to show actual data but e.g. topx that are recalculated once a day (I will create this then too) the topx will be shown as fast as a gallery page.

I'm currently working on integrating image magic - optimizing topx is the next step - If you like you can test the changes as soon as it is implemented.

which server are you using? how fast?
because once the top x is loaded the xmls are loaded - the 2nd time it is much faster. Seems your cpu needs really long to process the xml files.

I'm running an Apache/PHP Server (last version of both), Windows XP Professional on a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz and 2GB RAM.

then it's maybe your connection - I almost never get a good bandwith when I connect to you.

My upload speed is only 300kbps.

But I believe the issue is not related with it because my tests were done in another PC in the same network, thus with a 100mbps Ethernet connection.

I know - loading time of the images are not related to the time needed to calculate the topx - like I said - 1.7 will solve this problem.

implemented the caching yesterday - you want to test?
Now a background process generates the top in a given interval (I think I'll set this to 6 hours or so - can be set in the config anyway) and saves them in the cache. My server is not good for testing - "only" 2000 images and generation here takes only a second ...
copying images to my server does not help much because every images has to be viewed at least once ;).

Looking forward to 1.7 then, I only have 2 or 3 thousand on mine but when trying to load top 13, I get Fatal Error: maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in filefunctions.inc.php on line 2670

>_<

look when I release 1.7 dev4 - there the whole caching is already included and tested.

But if you have only 2-3 thousand images - make sure the cache is on! (right lower corner)

Aha! I thought I had caching already going because I'd hit "generate cache" but I guess I was wrong... I found the setting and now it works. Thanks!

there is a howto about the caching - TWG has several levels of caching to get best user experience with the lowest server load ;).
