Post subject:  Manipulating gallery solely through XML files

Hi Michael,

Is it possible for the gallery to be manipulated (edited and run) solely through the XML files? It does not seem to be working for me right now, but I was just wondering if this can be done. My boss wants me to do this in order to have more control over the gallery through the structure we have set up in our own XML files.

I don't know what you mean?

In the xml files only counter, titles, comments and so on are stored.
And the configuration itself can be directly done on the config files.

Well, I was trying to see if one could make folders and include images solely through those XML files. I guess not. It seems like the XML files are just to keep a record rather than files that are being parsed by php scripts or such.

Ok so I am confused. I keep editing the XML files in order to change the captions (I know you can edit them through the administrator account), but they do not change according to the captions I write in the XML files. Do you have any idea why? I have cleared the cache from the gallery and my browser, yet the caption does not change. The captions do change if I click on Edit (while in administrator account) and change the caption text; this also changes the XML files. If I change the XML file's text, it has no effect on what is shown on the gallery. So how is the original caption being saved? I do not have session caching set to true and I made sure that the cache for the browser and the gallery was cleared.

TWG does cache the captions in the session and does not load them every time. So if you edit the xml you have to do this while the browser is closed.

Oh ok. Thank you.

I also noticed that if I make an XML file from scratch, the Edit option on the admin side is rendered useless. If I delete this XML file that I made and go through the gallery so that the XML file is created by the scripts it runs perfectly, but I cannot edit this XML file without being on the admin side. Any thoughts on this?

why do you create xml files from scratch? And why should you not be able to edit them with any editor?

This is how my boss wants to use the gallery (outside of the browser).

I can edit these XML files with any editor, the problem is that I was not seeing the changes on the browser.

Problem solved. :) Thanks. You were right. I had my browser open and I was just refreshing the page to see my changes to these XML files. If I close the browser, make the changes, and then open the browser I can see these changes. Thanks Michael.
