Hi,

I would like to use JFU not only for uploading but also as a downloader. I have to protect some folders with passwords (different folders, different passwords). i'm wondering if that is somehow possible with JFU? if not, does anybody has a suggestion for a workaround?

are the access rights somehow connected to the users?

Because then you can define profiles with download settings for the certain users and set the menu entries for registered users only.

no, access rights are not connected with registered users. unregistered users must be able to login, passwords are given to these users by the owner of the folder personally.

For the issue with the password not connected to the users you would have to implement the user handling by yourself. Then it would be best to use TFU as base.
What you you want to download? If you have only images you can do this with TWG because there passwords are folder based and not user based.
